Project description

The goal for this workshop was to engage visitors in the oldest street market (it has a rich political and historical context) in Tainan City, Taiwan. My team came up with two Projects to present nightmarket experience to those who never been to nightmarket before.

Emotion Map

As seen in the picture, each individual visiting An Ping is allowed to discover their very own emotional space. One might find along the way an alley which produces the feeling of simplicity and tranquility, an owner of a toy shop displaying amazing selling abilities, or the rush of happiness after a simple snack of shrimp rolls. After our team’s observation of the connection of experiences in An Ping with the emotions generated, we designed the Emotion Map allowing visitors in An Ping the ability to display their emotions through color of different spaces that left great impression. As a result, the more input of emotions creates an interesting map which tells stories of the public space we observe.

Back Track Map

In this project, we use consumer choices to create this map. In Tainan Wusheng night market, we started with choosing a stall as our starting point, asking consumers what is their favorite consuming experience before this stall, and then we proceeded to the next stall according to the information consumers provided. When we arrived at the next stop, we asked the same question and moved to the next one. When information reached a certain amount, we went back to our starting point and created another route by using the same method. After many routes were created, this map revealed many consuming patterns in the night market.

My Role: Concept designed our interface, interviewed people in nightmarket and edited most of our team paper
